Research

I finally did my rat surgeries. I put human periodontal ligament stem cells into a defect I created in an athymic rat (they are lacking part of their immune system, and look a little weird). I worked in a filtered "bubble", much like the one featured on Seinfeld. It took a year and a half of work to get to this point. In 8 weeks I'll "sacrifice" them and that will start another year of data collection and write-ups. Research is not my favorite. The picture above is the bone removed from the roots of the rat's molar and the stem cells put over it. Perio surgery on a rat is tough work.

Happy Daze

Hope everyone had a good halloween. We did. Brian was a skeleton and Kate was a witch (a cute one). We've been trying to upload to the blog for a few days, and finally tonight its working. So, happy late birthday Gibson. It doesn't seem that long ago that we saw you in the hospital! Back when Brian was the little owl. Its crazy how time flies. We sure miss being near you guys. Brian drew a picture for Gibson, too. Its a jet, and a rocket blasting off, and Beck and Gibson's new home. (BTW went to see the new Warren Miller movie tonight, it was awesome. There's some great Wasatch skiing in it, no Audi Turbo Quatros, though Scott)

What were you?!

What was everyone for Halloween? We re-lived last year. Beck's Batman costume from last year was SO cool, he had to be that AGAIN, and Gibson like last year, refused to wear anything, or even go trick-or-treating. So, fun night here! At every door Beck would say, "Do you know I'm allergic to peanuts?" That was a little new for most of the home owners, but atleast it was all friends and neighbors so they couldn't have been nicer about it. Let's see all of your costumes! I still imagine Brian in a little owl outfit. That was my favorite so far.
